MacBookPro on unemployed man's desk?
#11
Looks like the two CRT's are running OSX with an expanded desktop. The one on the left has the menubar across the top of the screen like a Mac, doubt it is Windows.

For what it's worth, i have bought a new hard drive and a DVD burner since I got laid off.
They help with my little free-lance business and I don't feel at all guilty.

Yeah, fugly Dell lappy there - I'm hardly jealous of the guy. He could get what, maybe $200 for that if he tried to sell it?

Come on people, the thing that tipped it off IMMEDIATELY for me was that there were cords coming out of the back, where all of the ports on a MBP are on the side.

I would NEVER buy a used Dell laptop that was out of warranty; my wife uses a Dell, just like this one, that after 4 years it just would not boot, even with a brand new hard drive. The diagnosis was that the motherboard had failed and the cost for repair was over $500. She did not have to worry about that, as her company replaced the one she uses, but if you are using a PC laptop for emailing/word/excel/powerpoint, you can get an adequate one, under warranty, for $700. This is not a mac/pc discussion, but simple economics for small business purchases that are tied to the windows platform.

Both of my Dell P4 end tables came off the curb, some re-assembly required. Insurance settlement from a minor fender bender last week bought my MDD Dually and LCD. Cheap? Hugh Betcha.

Yeah, I bet there's a Mac tower lurking under the table.

All ready mentioned, but the desktop pictures (I don't refer to Macs as having "wallpaper") are obviously OS X as is the OS.

I see some kind of box to the left of the speakers, and what looks like a Dell tower underneath and to the right of the monitors. Can anybody confirm what those are?

So the guy is unemployed. It's not like he's homeless and just walked out of a store with a new computer.

It's not like he took public assistance money and spent it on hookers, booze, and Tommy Hilfiger sweatshirts, or Leader mock turtlenecks.

You can get a really decent Dell laptop for something like $600. It's the Macs that are obscenely expensive.

Exactly.

Buy those Dell Mini 9s! But make sure you don't get ripped off on the price: Keep it below $250.

no one pointed out the HDVideoPro magazine on his desk? Obviously, this guy has some other kind of thing going on...

Wink

"Jay Capelle would give anything to get back his factory job of 32 years. At the same time, he's grateful to have extra time on his hands these days to care for his ailing wife, stay in shape and work on a long-planned baseball documentary."

Plus, if you zoom in on the photo, you can see what may be video decks behind his head.

PC or Mac? He's got icons on both the left and right side of his screen, but is that a doc at the bottom? More to the point, is that a big, black PC tower to the left of the monitors?
