Bush rewards donors, staff with jobs on his way out the WH door
#1
Condi got a seat on the Kennedy Center board. I wonder if that means more religious programming for the KenCen, or whether the singalong "Messiah" will do?

Some of the jobs are potentially lucrative, emphasis on the "potentially":

From the Washington Post:

"Nearly half of Bush's appointments after Election Day were filled by donors who gave a total of nearly $1.9 million to Republicans since 2003, according to an analysis of the postings. At least 20 of the positions were filled by former Bush aides, plus others filled by old hands from the administrations of Richard M. Nixon, Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush.

"Most of the positions are unpaid and are valued more for their status than for monetary compensation. Yet the appointments show how political connections matter even for the most obscure Washington jobs, and they illustrate the extent to which presidents have an impact well after they leave the White House."

I thought that was SOP.

This is done at every level of politics, from your local town hall on up, regardless of political party.

I speak from experience on this:tongue:

Maybe if some of the lame-duck appointments weren't for six year terms... I could definitely see a two year term, but I think the sitting president should be able to name people to these commissions sometime in his term.

Just another demonstration that it's who you know rather than what you know that gets you places.

Isn't he too stoopid to make things like happen all on his own ?

Who you know often starts in University. That networking takes some through life.
