I once pulled a Jeep up a boat ramp with the 19" boat on trailer attached. I did this with Dodge Omni GLHS. The Jeep, also mine had a 1/4 tank, but when tilted on the ramp it ran out of gas.

I don't even see how that truck was stuck, just couldn't get up the hill? I bet that was over the 3k lb towing limit (or is it 2.7k?) Smile

The diesel gelled, I don't think it was stuck in snow.

The truck was stuck on a slippery spot. It was a single axle truck and they get stuck rather easily compared to a tandem axle tractor. I wouldn't have pulled it over the tracks, at least not with spinning wheels.

It isn't hard to get a truck moving if you use a tow strap. I wouldn't use a chain. I have pulled many empty trucks with small vehicles (cars, pickups) if the truck just needed a bit of help in my years of owning a sand and gravel trucking business. The traction of the towing vehicle is key, of course.
