New Educational priced iMac for $899

I think would be more inclined to buy refurbs if schools can buy them in quantity.

I can confirm this model is going to be available via Apple's Education channel. I don't think it's currently available for purchases outside of institutional customers, however. Also, refurbs are a challenge to acquire for institutional customers; Apple focuses on selling new product there and refurbs aren't usually available in quantity. (i.e. if you're big enough to be an institutional customer you're not buying LOTS of computers not one or two at a time.)

Standard policy at Apple has been that refurbs are not eligible for education institution purchases. Faculty, staff and students can buy them, without any additional discount, as individuals through the Education Store. On the other hand, educational institutional buyers do get offers that are not available elsewhere on the price list. Occasionally they do end up on the refurb sales due to cancelled orders or returns of DOA machines.
