It's Spring again, and time to stock up on shirts. Where's the best quality/price?
Also, does anyone know if there's a brand which is not extra long if you want an XL?
I prefer the XL for the shoulder size but they always end up way long on the bottom.
Thanks for any info!

You might try LLBean or Land's End. Sears carries LE brand.
Banana Republic makes a pretty darn good polo, but can be a little more dinero. I have one of their polos from about 8 years ago (size L, not overly long, either) and it's still in great shape and has kept its color. Come to think of it, the few items I've bought from them ALWAYS outlast just about everything else in my closet. To the point of I'm giving it away not because it's worn out but out of style. In their case, a little more cost is probably well worth it.
Target makes a polo (Merona brand IIRC) that is fairly decent and inexpensive. Also not too long in L, so that makes me think the XL may be a fit for you. The collars aren't my favorite, though. They are a little wide-ish and flimsy. I bought mine 2 or 3 years ago, though, so they are likely different now.
EDIT: i wouldn't mind hearing back from you on where you land with this.

I wore LL Bean ones for years, then decided Land's End ones are a little nicer, hold together better with repeated washings.

I thought you were going to ask if you should "pop" or not.

Standard office attire is polo and jeans for me. I hit up the clearance section of OldNavy.com, Aeropostale.com and used to use ArizonaJeansCo but looks like JCPenny has bought them out. OldNavy differentiates between their "long" and normal sizes. I find that a long Large suits me across the board. Aeropostale has some higher quality stuff that goes on clearance from time-to-time (knit polos). I refuse to pay more than $10/shirt. Wear them for a year and then get a new one next year or two.

Go to the store and try on a bunch. Every brand's cut will be different. You may prefer one material over another.
Don't be overly stingy, look for a well made, comfortable piece. Then you'll wear it a lot and get good value.
I just this spring went thru all my polos and after trying them all on again was left with two Ralph Lauren's. Everything else was lumpy and uncomfortable.
