I really like the "Top Sites" feature in Safari 4 but of late I am getting a spinning beach ball regularly. I wait for the ball to stop then quit and restart Safari and all is well for a while. Anyone else have this problem? Is there a fix? Thanks.

I haven't been having much problem; in fact it runs lots better than safari 3. Occasional beach ball I guess, but better than before.

Did you try the Apple Discussions > Safari?

Have you done a Safe Boot?
And Repair Permissions? I do that as a matter of course but I haven't done it *before* updating Safari, so I don't know if any were broken by the update.

I've never done a safe boot, but I repair permissions before and after installing and updating just about any software.

A Safe Boot is a walk in the park.
If you're not familiar with it, just start or restart while holding the Shift key for a minute or two.
This starts an fsck during the boot process and takes longer to start up than normal. After some point in time (and I don't know when that is) you can release the Shift key let the gray screen chug along, and then your Mac will boot into the Login window.
Login, immediately restart, and check out Safari.
I mention this because *each* time I upgraded to S4, 0.1, and 0.2, I had problems with it freezing shortly after launch. In each case I did a Safe Boot and there have been no further problems whatsoever.

I've gone thru the safe boot procedure and now it's a matter of time to see if that is the fix. Thanks for the suggestions.
I'll try to let you know if the problem comes back.

I'm 4.5 hours into the fix and it looks like all is well. Thank you very much!
