On the back of a 19" Sylvania colorTV we have had forever I saw an 800 number and thought it would be fun to call them up. Lo and behold it worked. In fact, it turned out they still handle the Sylvania line plus a few others. Pretty amazing.

At least you didn't call a 20 year old on an 800 number.

Back in the 80's I sent a dime and a coupon for a book that was advertised in the back of a hobby magazine from the 50's. The address didn't even have a Zip code, it was old school - Chicago 12, Illinois style. I was shocked when the book showed up a couple of weeks later. I think some of these places are stuck in a dusty Twilight Zone of sorts and never go away...or change their promotional materials.

What does it say about the so called "new economy"? All these dusty old businesses that were supposed to have succumbed to the internet are still around. You mentioned Smith which made me Google Smith-Corona. Yup, they are still there.
