Sad day at home

I got off early today, and went home to clean a bit before getting the kids. My kitty Spynxie didn't come in last night, so I went to look for her. I found her, laying still in the back yard. My dogs did not touch her. They just sat by her.
Rest in Kitty Peace 2001-2010  Now. How do I tell my kids...

Yeah, the kids. When ours were very young and the grandparents' dog (also my dog) died, we told them she went to live at a farm and later told them she died at the farm. They now understand death and are willing to accept the dog's death. It turned out that showing them dead bugs was quite helpful in this process.

how sad but the vigil your dogs kept is what really brings a sweet tear to my eye.

Aww.... so sorry to hear about that. Telling the kids is hard.... I usually explain that the pet was called to heaven (usually to be Grandma or Grandpa's pet), and that we're happy to have shared their life. And don't forget to console the pups.. obviously they felt that kitty was a member of the family too.

These creatures do manage to wiggle their way into your heart. Losing them is never easy. They never live quite long enough.
