Unused 2.5" SATA drive - anyone have one?
#1
Greetings, non-cretins!

I'm looking for an abandoned laptop SATA drive - perhaps one you upgraded from or one
from a Mac mini that was upgraded, and you don't have a use for it. Size doesn't matter.
I simply want one big enough to use for trouble-shooting.

I'm seeing "ready to go" 250GB drives by Samsung and others in the $37-$49 range, so I
am looking for something significantly less (or free + shipping), if youse's got one.

Same thing with an ATA/IDE 2.5" as well - as I can put both to use, for PPC use (of which
I have in excess of a dozen machines.

Just PM me if you have one you'd like to part with and know it gets attention!

Danke.

I have a 40GB from a recently deceased AppleTV. Logic board went bad but drive is still good.

Now SERIOUSLY, Folks....

I don't care if the drives are SATA or IDE/ATA, actually. I just happen to have
a few of the discount cases that typically use two USB ports for power - and
so I'm not being picky about the type.

With 2TB 3.5" drives going for $99 after rebate (hitachi - just saw one at Buy.com)
it starts to make having anything other than an external 1TB seem dumb. But... I
am not using them for the kinds of tasks a 1TB+ is optimal for. Plus - I've got no
cases to put them in (actually I do have a Maxtor 500 I got with Staples Rewards for
about $15 - that case might work...)

But if you've got a drive laying around from a Mac mini or one you replaced in your MB/MBP,
and can part with the oldie, it would be much appreciated.

Maybe I should post a shot of the overflow of machines I got from a school. The worst part about
these machines was... I got the call to come and get the rest of them (all Snow iMacs) the day
I left IL, and was already on the road, and had NO room in the van to carry them.

It was heartbreaking. I was going to do so much with them all! And now I am! 3 years later!

(I found a halfway house that said they would take one for surfing for jobs and résumés for their
inhabitants)

So see..... ? It's for a good cause - and these machines do fine with 10.4.11 on them. That and Office 04
(which they all had on them already) is perfect for a charity outfit.

Just so you know, I don't write them off. The RAM I install is worth more than the machine. It's just not
worth the hassle of declaring them and saving eBay listings with the day/date to prove value for a few
giveaways. That's not why I'm doing it anyway.

The reason I'm doing it is so I get a room in Hell with a window unit air conditioner!

I think I have a 120 GB from a MacBook, but to be honest, I am not really sure whether I still have it or not. Make me an offer worth my time to look for it when I get home!
