Is my emac worth upgrading? Can't seem to easily find Tiger for it.

I went and looked at the imacs and I am in love, but too broke.

No issues with this machine although hard drive was replaced under applecare and upgraded right before warranty was up.

This past weekend I upgraded a friend from an eMac to a prev-gen Mac mini. Tremendous difference. Do not spend one iota of brain power trying to decide whether to upgrade the eMac.

Must emphasize the "more RAM" part though, or Tiger will eat your lunch.

( I would add my voice to the "new computer" chorus, but I understand "no money"... so add the RAM, install Tiger, and save your pennies for a lightly used 20" iMac!)

It should do Leopard, but not the Snow variety.

But I don't think it would do Leopard very well with just 384MB of RAM.

Even Tiger with 384MB might not be much fun.

No mention of what the current OS is on this eMac, I'd guess Panther, but it might be Jaguar.

More ram is a given, if I add anything at all.

The two things you could do for it:

1. upgrade the memory from 384MB (256MB + 128MB) to 1GB (2 x 512GB)
using 512MB PC133 CL3 3-2-2/PC100 CL2 2-2-2 168 Pin Low Profile SDRam

2. upgrade the OS (and apps) to Tiger 10.4.latest or Leopard 10.5.latest

The G4 does not have the CPU muscle needed to deal with current web media (flash, streaming video), but it can handle compressed audio (MP3) and audio streaming, static web pages and email just fine.
