New tsunami video - by far the most frightening I've seen

Shot from what you would assume to be a safe height and distance... You can see an entire town wiped out in 5 minutes. People fleeing with floating houses hot on their tail. Truly horrifying...

Woah, most of the other videos I have seen don't show any people actually running from the surge, this one is a bit more of that.

I can honestly say I've never seen anything like that. Just can't imagine it, really.

And I think that's part of the problem. The other night we watched some National Geographic thing on TV about tsunamis and they were saying that even people who live in areas that have had tsunamis don't often truly believe what can happen.

What I don't understand is that those people up on the hill obviously knew what was coming. Why else would they be filming? So wtf were people still doing down there???

Truly frightening, and such destructive force!

I always imagined a tidal wave that consists of water only. That thing just sucked everything up in its path and took it along for the ride.

That was truly horrifying. People clearly did not realize, until it was too late, that they would be engulfed.

One thing I've learned is that, contrary to what I once thought, a tsunami is not a 40 foot wave.

Someone more accurately described it instead as, "imagine that sea level increases by 40 feet in 5 minutes."

I learned that after the Indonesia tsunami of some years ago.

I live near the coast and now give thanks that we're located at the top of a relatively tall hill (~100 ASL).
