Jehovah's Witnesses showed up at the door for first time in 15 years
#1
Fifteen years ago, they caught me cooking in my underwear twice in a row. I figured they had a map or list somewhere with a big X by my name. Today they showed up and I couldn't really tell them how to beat it. I just stammered around until they got the message. It turns out I used to know the guy a little bit 35 years ago. We had a nice cordial conversation about things in general.

You know, being a Christian and spreading the Gospel is hard enough, but I don't understand why seemingly normal people have to back themselves into a corner with such an offbeat version of a religion that is strange in itself.

It's a pretty spiteful religion when you think about it.

As I understand their beliefs, only 144,000 of them get to go to heaven. The rest have to compete for a slot on post-apocalyptic earth by going door-to-door like Girl Scouts selling cookies, only all the time.

If they slip up and miss one too many doors or fail to pay their dues to the Watchtower organization then they lose their spot in the afterlife and their soul will be consumed by God.

Of the door-to-door religions, I prefer Mormons. They're always so cheery and almost never tell me that I'm damned.

They don't think they are 'backed into any corners'.

They can believe in the End Times all they want.
Doesn't make the sun rise or set any sooner at my house.

Just be a Methodist. That's the way to go.

Don't throw stones. Even the most mainstream religions can sound freakydeaky when scrutinized.

That's my point. They are adding a huge level of strangeness to an already "freakydeaky" religion.
