Just saw Elton John

BIL called about 7:30 to say he had a free ticket for me if I wanted to go. Uh, yeah... Great show! First show since the big weddin'. Just had to share my good fortune.

Here's the deal as I understand it. He was supposed to play La Crosse, WI, but was snowed out. Since he had to go back to make up the date, they didn't want to do just a one-off, so they booked my town (Sioux City, IA) a couple weeks ago to help make the trip worth it. After La Crosse, he's doing a three year stint in Vegas, then, who knows? I might have just seen him on one of his very last regular tour dates ever.

The man played three hours straight, no break. He even played mostly solo a couple times just to give his band a break. Great entertainer.

Yup- I saw on StubHub he's in LaCrosse tomorrow. If I wanted to skip work and drive 8 hours I could make it . . .
Rescheduled from April 19.

Looks like he's scheduled for a series of shows in Las Vegas in October.
Is it just me, or does that seem to cheapen the value of seeing him a bit?

Isn't it almost like seeing an exhibit in a zoo? Even though it'll probably be a huge show, I think I'd rather see an act in the wild rather than in captivity.

I've never been to Vegas, but when I think of Liberace or Wayne Newton the zoo analogy does seem fitting.
