does this mean I could run out in the next 2 weeks and get an iPhone with unlimited data? and then if/when iPhone 4LTE/5/whatever drops, trade in/trade up for the newer phone (with upcharge of course) with keeping unlimited data at $29.99/month?

Thanks for posting this.
I just went ahead and upgraded to the iPhone 4; been sitting on my $100 discount for two years and was waiting out until the next version, but losing the unlimited would have been a dealbreaker/disappointment for me. I currently have unlimited with my older phone, and grandfathered in with my ATT iPad 2...so want to make sure I am covered here, too. Thanks again.

Wow! What a dilemma.
I've been holding off getting an iPhone until the next generation becomes available, which appears to be late August or early September. Knowing that the unlimited data plan is being canceled, I'm wondering what strategy I could use to get on the current plan, but not lose the ability to buy the new iPhone with the two year contract discount? Any ideas?

i have ATT unlimited, but have never gone over 500 MB in a single month so far.
mostly my usage hovers between 175 MB and 300 MB / month.

Perhaps unlimited plans will make their way back someday, but the industry trend is a very cloudy forecast that will be happening for a long time. I should clarify that on my old phone I had the unlimited 'vPak' plan that for $15/month gives me everything: data, text, email, VZ Navigator, vCast videos/etc...I've had that for the last six or seven years. They don't offer that anymore, so any new phone upgrade I would be losing it - might as well lose it now and jump ship. |
