[OT] Camping... Source for Seam Sealer tape ?
#1
My aging dome tent has suffered floor and rain fly seam tape failure. I'd like to re-tape it using something long lived.. "Duck" tape won't cut it for this application. Any suggestions ?

I've found sources for 'taffeta tape' and seam sealer brush on glue stuff, but I worry about flex and foldability.

I'd only use taffeta tape to hem Nylon pants. I'd prefer a ripstop tape that is somehow heat sealed.. I think that's how they did the original manufacturing. I also use ribbon sometimes as a reinforcement... hmm. Nylon ribbon.. hmmm..

I think I found it

I have used the tube variety of Seam Sealer many years ago on my Mountain Sewing Gortex, Backpacking Tent. This stuff was awesome. I may have purchased it from REI. You might find something like this preferable to the iron on stuff.

How does it hold up on, for example, a tent floor ? That's the wear item I'm worried about.

Are you talking about seams cbelt....> ? I used the seam sealer regularly from the day I received my tent.
Perhaps you need something stronger than Seam Sealer and maybe both would be apropos.

I had a Coleman 6 man dome tent that I'd used for 25 years and 2 years ago finally decided to retire it due to similar issues. I replaced it with another 6 man dome tent from Walmart that cost me under $60 and it works well for the 3-4 trips a year I do. It's time to let go.....

Angus likes the new tent and that it what's most important.

I considered it, but it's a really nice tent with aircraft aluminum poles and a precisely designed footprint, etc... And very lightweight... broken up into a couple of loads it would be packable. And since it was my dad's last tent purchase before he died, it's kind of a family heirloom. I think I'll try to tape and glue it. I did use it as is last weekend, and it held up just fine in a light rain.

Pixie the Rat Terrier is our Camping Dog... she'll zip right down into a sleeping bag with you, which is nice on a cold night. The Chihuahuas do not like the concept of camping.. they know where their bed is and they'll be damned if they're gonna go out in the woods someplace.

Glad to see Angus enjoys it. What a cutie !

If you bought it at REI, its still under warranty. If you didn't buy it at REI, now you know where to buy the replacement.
