I recommend watching or listening to the Women's Soccer Finals right now

Even if you don't care for soccer, this is good.

Or, if you've watched the whole game, you may be reminded why Americans generally don't watch soccer.

Or just listen to the recordings I happen to pick up of my neighbor screaming at them. He calls 'em like he sees 'em.

I have watched the whole game, and i have been interested. Abby Wambach has scored 122 goals in 163 games played, and she is one of the sport's leading scorers. That means she scores one goal in about 75% of her starts, on average. I'm not dissing soccer, i'm saying that it doesn't generally appeal to American sports tastes.

Baseball also has this problem - not enough scoring, not enough lead changes. Baseball has the advantage of greater strategic transparency, however - it's much tougher to discern in soccer. Imagine how popular baseball would be if the top batting averages were in the .115-.140 range, or if the average top final score in the NBA was 24. It might be fantastically athletic and competitive and exciting, but it would put Americans to sleep.

That being said, GO ABBY AND GO U-S-A!
