do new Macs still come with DVD restore disks?
#1
except MBA which doesn't have an optical drive, of course, what about the other Macs. Do they still come with optical disks or Apple switched to USB sticks or maybe the cloud?

Paper booklets and restore partitions-- no physical media of any sort.

No.

Lion has a recovery volume. That's all you get.

so what if the HD (with restore partition) goes kaput?

Also, when Apple advertises a HD as 500 GB, how much of that is used by the restore partition?

Out of warranty, Apple will install it for you for a nominal fee.

(Or you could make an emergency recovery disk with this tool: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-200...tant-tool/ )

No, but there were like a zillion threads about these very questions when everyone rushed to download Lion that first day.

I understand that Apple does not sell Lion separately on an optical disk. I was asking if they also eliminated the optical discs with all their Macs. That's a different question.

There may have been some threads about this, which I may have missed.
