They matter very much. It's apparent that close to half the people who vote are on a spectrum of ignorant to crazy and they can totally screw up the country when they get riled up enough to turn out and vote. You add that to their voter suppression tactics and obvious vote-rigging computers and we are always in danger of self-destruction.

Hell, I'm still getting over the shock of Reagan being taken seriously on a national level. The first time he ran in 1976, they laughed him out of the race. I was convinced that he'd never be taken seriously.
