Called Sirius today about extending my contract for another year.
A guy said no way I could get it again for $85, the new price would be $175 plus. I told him to go ahead and cancel my contract, he said wait a minute and I'll connect you with the cancellation dept. I got a nice lady who said she would be glad to give me another year for half price. Instead of $85 the new half price is $92.57 total.

They really get excited when you mention cancellation. She said the base price for half is now $84 instead of $77 plus tax. So I went for another year. So it is costing me $7.00 more than last year.

Same with me. $25 for the first six months then the going rate for the next six. $92.18 total for me.

I mentioned in one of those old threads that I always call to cancel when the promotion rate runs out. The latest time was about two months ago, I got 5 months for $27.

I turned down the $92 price, they immediately offered me 6 months for $30. Plus I got my credit card taken off the account (ask for the "invoice option" ) , so no sneaky renewals.

When we bought our car in 2008, I immediately got it hooked up with Sirius and paid for the "lifetime" option for $499. That was 4 1/2 years ago and every year that Sirius lasts, the price/year is going down.

If Sirius went out of business today, our cost would be $111 a year for the service; in 2 years, assuming they are still around, out cost will be a pro-rated $77 a year.

Interestingly, I just took the $92 offer this afternoon. I didn't get any good offers until I told them I would cancel. The lady prompted me to say it. She said, "What will you do if you can't get a half price offer?" I told her I would cancel, and whammo! I get a half price deal. Listen closely, because they tell you they will put your card on file, and you have to tell them you don't want that. Otherwise, you get an auto renew, and now half price deal.

I have lifetime service on one of mine. Two others are at the "family rate", which is about $100 a year. And I alternate back and forth with two other radios I have. They offer $25 for 6 months. Near the end, I renew the other one for the same rate and let the first one drop. Then I do the same thing with that one.

we seem to have lifetime on our minivan. bought it used (was a previous rental car) and it's just worked and no one calls us to ask us to pay anything.

Now there's a deal. I bought a used car that had it still working. I should have just kept my mouth shut.
