How's the 13 inch retina Macbook Pro going to be different from the Macbook Air?
#1
So there are rumors that the 13 inch retina Macbook Pro is already shipping to suppliers with either a late September or October launch date.

So, I'm wondering what's going to differentiate it from the Macbook Air (other than the retina display)?

Will Apple remove the optical drive from the Pro? But that's no different from the Air.

Will Apple make the Pro thinner? But that's no different from the Air.

Will Apple make RAM soldered and the SSD proprietary? But that's no different from the Air.

Just a bit curious to see if one product line will merge into the other eventually or something like that.

Thoughts?

Pro will probably have faster processors, more max RAM capability, larger capacity SSD options, better Thunderbolt chips (the first Air with TB supported less TB devices, don't know if that's still true), potentially two TB ports like the 15" Retina, still be a little thicker and heavier than an Air and I'm sure price will differentiate it somehow as well.

It will be more powerful than the air...and it will cost a lot more.

Thicker, heavier, and more bad-ass.

I think Apple should have called the MBP-Retina the Air with Retina. It would have made so much more sense. People wouldn't have been complaining that it lacks an optical drive or that it isn't upgradable since it is an Air not a Pro.(Amazing how much people are affected by a simple name). Then you just keep adding the Retina display to the existing Air line with no branding changes.

Nobody mentioned graphics card yet.

I really like the 15" MBP retina; the 13" should just be its little brother.

I don't really care for the body of the 13" Air. I'm hoping for just a smaller version of the 15".

Yeah, I like the 13" MBPro for it's mind.

My only complaint about the current 13" MBPro is the low resolution lame-o 1280x800 screen. My 6 year old Blackbook has the same screen; I would not buy a new one until they improved this problem. A 1440x900 would have been nice, but Retina? Yeah! I'll take that!

Thanks for the replies. I guess we'll see how it turns out in late September or October!
