Well, that makes my choice of iPhone 5 carrier even easier...

“iPhone 5 supports simultaneous voice and data on GSM-based 3G and LTE networks. It is not yet possible to do simultaneous voice and data on networks that use CDMA for voice and LTE for data in a single radio design.

Yep, exactly why I've stuck with AT&T...

I saw that in a different article (don't recall which). It stated much the same thing except there was still some debate as to whether or not this would be the case with Sprint for some reason. My apologies for not saving the link and being able to post it. I don't know what magic they could have up there sleeve if any (they probably don't). I was heavily leaning toward switching from ATT to Sprint, too. Now, I'm not so sure. The savings would have to be steep or the service would have to be better (my phone cuts out sometimes within my apartment depending on where I sit). Disappointed to say the least.

I thought they would have that technology by now.

Another article.

After 4 years of having an AT&T iPhone, I went with a Verizon 4S last year. I thought I this would be annoying as well.

But I'm pretty sure, there have been 2 times when this affected me over the past year.

Keep in mind this will not affect you if your phone is connected to Wi-Fi.

I see it as a problem when using the Maps app and be on a call. The Maps uses data.

I have no personal experience. I am on ATT.

Haven't found this to be a problem in almost a year of 4S usage on Verizon. Thought it would be an inconvenience. It just isn't.

Had dinner a while ago with a guy who complained about this.

FWIW he sat and looked at his phone all through dinner, sort of engaging the other dinner guests with the top of his head while he texted and surfed.

I use 3G data frequently while on a call. Checking stock prices, looking up movie times, finding directions, locating ATMs, searching Wikipedia.com... It would be a PITA to lose that ability.

Verizon iPhone user here... I don't 'use' the feature because I don't have it. Would it be helpful ? Yes.

Meh.
