Those gazillion rounds and automatic weapons that Homeland Insecurity Ordered helped too !

(Yes, I know that's mostly BS... I understand the Gov't procurement system even if most whackos don't)

I kind of prefer the "Fatherland Security" term better. Seems somehow more accurate...

Great line of work if you have no concerns about your soul.

Uh, no Mac-A-Matic. People that buy guns are what make them popular, not people who don't want them.

Then again, if all these new guns are being bought out of spite, that's sort of hilariously pathetic and stupid, don't you think? I mean, you are thinking about this, correct?

Deckeda-

It seems to me that the gun boom (Fatherland Security purchasing not withstanding) that is currently going on has been spurred by the politicians and haters that are calling for a ban on the guns. A call goes out to ban the AR-15 type of weapon and people react accordingly. The haters rejoice and shout (as they do on this forum) and the gun users decide that they must BUY NOW before a ban goes into effect.

The result is low supply and high demand, which has seen the AR-15 type weapon rocket from roughly $800 to over $2000 per gun - and most of that increase came in a matter of days following the cry for a ban.

Are they being bought out of spite?
$2K is a lot to spend simply because you hate Obama and democrats, but I'm sure there are those out there that are doing it.

I think that most of the purchasing being done today is not out of spite but rather because of perceived scarcity that has resulted in actual scarcity.

Is this the same kind of condemnation you give to defense and government workers. Or American citizens as a whole who have allowed our government and military to kill hundreds of thousands of people worldwide?

now now... there's nothing wrong with desiring peace. I often struggled with my conscience when designing different weapon systems. I refused a job offer building nuclear weapons at Rocky Flats. .

For a time in the 1980's the Catholic Church even offered support and retraining for weapons designers who wanted to follow the peaceful path. I looked into it after talking to my parish priest, but ended up quitting and taking a job for a company that didn't make weapons at all, without support. I later found great peace when I worked on the SDI project, because I was working on designs that protected people from nuclear attack.

American civilians are not defending themselves with semi-automatic weapons (not from anything real anyway), they are toys for boys. All fun and games until a nut or a child gets one.

Lemon,
This isn't a discussion about civilians buying guns. This is an issue of civilians getting hired for jobs making guns.
