Now, over the next couple of months, we’ve got a couple of issues: gun control. (Applause.) I just came from Denver, where the issue of gun violence is something that has haunted families for way too long, and it is possible for us to create common-sense gun safety measures that respect the traditions of gun ownership in this country and hunters and sportsmen, but also make sure that we don’t have another 20 children in a classroom gunned down by a semiautomatic weapon -- by a fully automatic weapon in that case, sadly.

Lanza used a fully automatic weapon? Has anyone seen this reported in the media? All reports I've read state that he used a Bushmaster AR-15 (semi automatic).

The incident was tragic enough as it was, but again Obama puts out false information in order to advance his agenda.

There are a lot of people who eat up that false information, especially when it what they want to hear. If the President says it, it becomes the truth for a LOT of people.

So as far as that goes, you may as well revise history now, because according to the Prez, it was an "automatic assault rifle" that caused it, not the evil or mentally disturbed person that used it.

The pendulum has swung too far, it is time to hang tight until till it swings back a little.

Dunno. There are ways to turn an AR-15 into an M-16. The kits to do that are sold under the table at gun shows. Illegal as hell, but people do it. There are also kits that are legal called 'bump stocks' that allow you to use the recoil of the gun to squeeze the trigger, turning the weapon into a defacto fully autmatic weapon.

President Obama might actually have more information than us at this point.

OK, so assuming it's a lie, or an inaccuracy-- couldn't you baby killers use it to your advantage? I.e. "Lanza used a fully auomatic weapon-- so we don't need any bans on semi-automatic weapons?"

Further note.. The sale and ownership of a fully automatic M-16 manufactured and registered after 1986 by a private citizen is specifically illegal. And has been since 1986. While there are legally registered fully automatic weapons of pre 1986 vintage, such registration requires a special federal license. It is believed (1) that none of these weapons has ever been used in any crime.

The illegal sale and use of fully automatic weapons still happens.
