Our 9 year old 50" Sony Wega LCD HDTV TV has developed a slowly growing 3 inch blue splotch in the lower right corner of the screen, so it is time to consider replacing it. We want one with all the bells and whistles (no interest in 3D) but I am not aware what bells and whistles modern TVs offer.
I would appreciate suggestions as to sites that provide a comprehensive discussion of the features of current offerings and comparisons of the various makes and models.

My neighbor was in a similar situation and I will tell you what I told her: go to Costco and get one from there. They offer a few dozen models (maybe more) ranging from basic with no frills (and a not so great picture) to absolutely fantastic with everything. She spent $1100 for a 50" LED with 120 hz refresh rate (better for watching sports or action movies as there is less of an "artifact" effect). Most TVs look nice and the people that work in the electronics section at Costco are not on commission so you will probably get an honest answer about the sets. They also sell the mounting equipment for wall mounting, and for a LOT less money than competitors for similar quality.
With Costco, if you bring the TV home and are not thrilled, put it back in the box and bring it back within 90 days for a full refund.

Be aware new tv's have no headphone jack or analog audio output. So if you use headphones or an older stereo for sound you will need additional equipment.
Smart tv's are awesome but expensive. Cheaper to buy a no smart tv and add a roku or appletv.
Some tv's have Bluetooth audio which I use.

I had a blue splotch on my old OLD sony wega LCD tv and Sony replaced it with a new 52" LCD for a mere $250. Of course, MY wega was an LCD PROJECTION tv but hey.

I'm quite happy with my 60 inch Vizio from Sam's Club for $888.
