Problem with a Mac Mini and VT2430 LCD TV
#1
I'm trying to use the TV as a monitor. Running 10.8.4 on the Mini, connected the VT2430 using HDMI, set for NOT mirroring, and using the monitor's 60hz refresh rate setting in the Displays preferences. The output on the VT2430 looks grainy and poor. Any ideas how to fix? (Unfortunately, this TV only has HDMI and VGA in, no DVI in...)

Sounds like the pixels on the Mac do not match the pixels on the TV

See if there is an "underscan" option in OSX's display preferences. drag that slides and see if it has any effects

See if there is a "Size" option on your TV, some TV overscan (this the option to underscan on OS X).

what video resolution setting?

Best or Scaled?

specs suggest 1920x1080 @ 60Hz (preferred)

What resolution does the Mac say you are set to in the Displays system preference?

You can set both (the Mac and the TV) to use 1920x1080. Everything "should" look sharp after that.

Hi guys,

I did both options: best for display, which gives me 60Hz as an option, and scaled (which allows me to use either 1080i or 1080p). All of these choices give me the same poor results.

According to the specs online for use as monitor resolution is 1360 x 768. lt also says has a vga port so probably will not take a computer thru hdmi my plasma won't.

Weird, ViewSonic's basic specs page for this product shows 1920x1080 for Macs and PCs.

From a Newegg review, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6889107061:
"If you've purchased this monitor to use with a computer and the hdmi input,
and your image looks fuzzy or jagged, try dialing the sharpness way down - I found it greatly improved the graphics appearance."

I looked at a c-net review and a list of specs don't know if they had right ones.

Can you run a VGA cable out of your Mac Mini?

I know it's not a native port on the back, but if you've got DVI on the Mini, there's a converter to go to VGA. Then connect a VGA cable to the TV from the Mini.

Hey, I could be wrong, I've seen incorrect specs listed on the manufacturer site before! Seems crazy, but it has happened.
