Cat Food Dilemma
#1
I've been feeding Boris & Natasha Innova dry senior formula. They like it and are in good health and quite active for 13-year-olds.

I was aware of Innova's voluntary recall, but what I was not aware of is the fact that it hadn't returned to the stores, and probably won't be coming back. So, I have a few days worth of food left, and am now faced with a rather sudden diet change.

Some of the brands recommended to me include Nature's Variety, Natural Balance, Wellness Core, Taste of the Wild, California Naturals & Purvita.

I was buying the Innova for about $44 for 15 lbs. I'd prefer not to spend more.

What do you guys feed? Any thoughts on switching foods abruptly?

Nutro has some high-protein dry foods that my cat is very fond of.

Check the side of each bag for protein content and sources.

I feed my cat Wellness Core (brown bag for dry and blue can for wet, I'm screwed if they ever change the packaging Smile ). It is expensive (though I don't keep track of how expensive).

I get most of mine from Petco and if you join their club you get a lot of offers via email. Also online.

Several good brands are Wellness, Solid Gold, Natural Balance, Blue Buffalo, Halo, and Merrick. I would highly recommend Merrick. My cat loves it.

I also give my cat something called Cat Sip, which is milk for cats.

dog gets Nat Bal or Wellness at about $33 for 12lbs.
Cats are on vet diets now, but they both use to get either of the above as well.
I'm still afraid of how much "outsourced" Chinese fleh is in pet food.

Via mail order - Young Again - very comparable to Innova Evo - I am faced with the same problem. I just ordered some Young Again yesterday to try - free shipping.

I feed my cat Blue Wilderness (Blue Buffalo). No grains.

Used to use several of the low/no grain versions mentioned above, but my 2 cats quit eating them as well a few years ago. Tried Fromm's and haven't had any finicky eating problems since. They have even lost a couple of pounds they needed to with the Fromm's (vs the other brands listed above; note the weight went on with the traditional high carb dry cat food & thus precipitated the change to the higher protein ones). Found my best prices at chewy.com and have been pleased with their service. Previously used Petco & a couple of others.

Followup: I bought a small bag of Fromm's at the Feed Store (probably the best expertise on cat food in town) to hold kitties over for the time being.

As it turns out, the Innova IS coming back, just probably not to Petsmart. It should be back on the shelves at this store in a week or so. So if you're feeding that, check your local store. I will decide between staying with Innova (still a highly regarded food) or the Fromm's. Neither of these cats needs to lose weight, by the way.

Thanks for the tips, all.
