Long List Of Senior Discounts - Some Seem Too Good To Be True - Your Thoughts?

Just found this list on the innernet (If it's on the webs, it MUST be true, right?) offering some huge discounts if you ASK for them. Some kick in at 50+, which caught my attention, as I hit the 55 last year.

Has any of DM's seniors taken advantage of this age loophole? Being 55 doesn't bother me all that much, but missing deals like this does!




"As I was waiting in line behind an older gentleman at Wendy's recently,I heard him ask for his senior discount. The girl at the register apologized and
charged him less. When I asked the man what the discount was, he told me that

seniors over age 55 ...get 10% off everything on the menu, every day. (But you

need to ASK for your discount.)

Being of 'that' age myself, I figured I might as well ask for the discount too.
This incident prompted me to do some research, and I came across a list of

restaurants, supermarkets, department stores, travel deals and other types of

offers giving various discounts with different age requirements. I was actually

surprised to see how many there are and howsome of them start at the young

age of 50 .
This list may not only be useful for you, but for your friends and family too.

I am getting magazine ads for AARP, so the topic could be relevant to my interests. I don't know what my opinion really is. I like getting a deal but I don't see 50 as the point to start discounts, except as an occasional loss leader to get old fogies used to coming in the door. I guess should parse the list in a spreadsheet to see what I qualify for at my current age. :oldfogey:

Edit: The first one I checked was Arby's. Based on that, my guess is most of these are true/accurate.

I'd be interested in finding out if this list is valid. There's only about four places on the list I'd ever buy stuff from, but the National Parks $10 lifetime pass for 62+ looks great.

That one is true. Both my wife and I have one and we used them last year in Yellowstone, Grand Teton and Arches. You only need one per car. Saved a bundle because we were there for ten days.

It seems to be quite true. I received a senior discount last spring at Cedar Point amusement park. Which I found a bit annoying, because I'm not 60 yet. Of course I looked aged and annoyed because it was cold, wet, and I was chaperoning a herd of kids with ADHD. That will definitely put a few extra years on you.

I think some of them might have additional restrictions. The list says Kohl's gives 15% off but I think that's only good for one day a week (not sure which day).

Many years ago when I was 48, I stopped in a Wendy's and, was given the "Senior Discount" by the teen ager who took my order. At first I was annoyed. I quickly got over it and figured I was better off keeping money in my pocket rather than giving it to Wendy's. :oldfogey:
