Airbnb., NYC/LI.. use it ? Like it ?
#1
Family reunion on Long Island in late June. (Hamptons area). Aunt's big house bedrooms are all spoken for. Mrs. cbelt3 cannot camp with her RA. Hotels are all booked or sketchy.... I'm looking at AirBNB for a small house where my family can sleep and perhaps find a few moments of peace.

Has anyone used this service and liked it ?

TIA !

Have used and liked around the world (NOLA, Denver, Paris, Provence, etc). Ended up using a different service when we were in NYC due to some trouble AirBNB ran into there with room tax issues and stopped listing properties. Not sure if it's the same issue in LI or not, but if not, I can heartily recommend.

cbelt,

You may want to look at hotels that are within a reasonable driving distance of your aunt's house. The Hamptons themselves are busy to the extreme over the summer. But, 20 minutes to 30 minutes away, is a different story. Definitely may be some availability.

I think AirBNB is great.
You'll want to set up a friendly profile with friendly face pic before inquiring about any listings otherwise you'll get a pretty negative response from potential hosts.

Airbnb is great; be sure to do the friendly profile as Black said. In addition to VRBO, I used homeaway and tripadvisor to find rental homes for short stays.
