Reports: Apple set to acquire headphone maker Beats
#1
http://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/2014/...s/8868913/

If consummated, Apple's purchase of Beats could represent the company's largest acquisition ever.
...
Should the acquisition go through, it would be ironic in a way. Dre and Iovine came up with the idea for Beats by lamenting the decline in sound quality ushered in by Apple's own iPod and the MP3 era.

Is it bad (or wrong?) that I only associate beats with thugs and hoodlums?

Yes. You should in fact associate it with poor quality audio reproduction.

With Jimmy Iovine's vast industry connections (and his power) I suppose the service had attractive agreements with more artists than some other services?

Other than that, I can't imagine why anyone would want to sell Beats headphones. They pretty much suck, although they will forever be justifiably known for spearheading the "better headphone" resurgence that's taken the audio world by storm the last few years.
