I guess I have been given the okay to buy a replacement body for the D300 I am currently using. New body needs to be able to use my older glass AND shoot video. Shooting better quality video is now on my to-do list I guess.
Welcome any suggestions.

I shoot this camera as my main non-sports/action camera for clients now. If it had a better than 4fps frame rate it would be used for all my work. D800 would be a drop off in fps. I guess it all depends on what you are shooting.

Chop,
Take a look at your computer system..are you fast?
Storage? This thing produces (duh i spose) big files..
Is your existing lens collection up to par? In order to really take advantage of this res you should have pretty good glass. It's always been that way but now it matters more. People get pretty focused on pixel counts these days but good lenses make a tremendous difference on any camera.
I tend to think that, for most folks - even many professionals..That the D600 (610) will do more than what you need it to do. This camera is amazing. I should add..So is the D7100..a real gem of a camera even if it isn't full frame.
You just have to ask yourself a few questions. You're probably tuned into all of this so..
That said....WHATEVER!!

If you are looking for something that really cranks, a used d3 is your best value. The d800 is better than the d600 because of the autofocus system. The 36 mp on D800 will really show you flaws in your technique and focus tracking. I have come to realize that I must be more precise than I have been in the past with 12mp cameras.

That all being said, d700 has the same as as the d3 and you can add the vertical grip making it less bulky than a d3. I just remembered you want video. D600 and d800 major difference will be the at system. D800 has the d4 at module, the d600 does not.

However did I shoot photos with a measly 5fps Nikon F2/MD2 and a manual focus 180 2.8 Nikkor… fastest film was ASA 400 Tri-X with push processing.
(But man was photography fun back then.)

I find 5fps is my threshold for sports. That is why I kept my two D3. My sports clients usually don't need 36mp.
My first real sports camera was the F4 and Tmax 400 that I pushed to 3200. Not as rough as the old days but still fun.

The D800 is not tops when it comes to dealing with low light levels. The D610 would allow for higher ISO with cleaner footage. The new D750 should also be excellent, but I have not used that camera yet
