Why is Apple still selling MacBook Pro 13 with Disc Drive 2012?

The real reason is edu customers. It's the least expensive Mac laptop that can go in a cart of iPads and use Configurator with more than 20 of them at the same time.

I wish they'd kill the HDD, though, and replace it with an SSD. You can "customize" one but that gets you a meager 128 drive for $50 less than a retina MBP.

You forget about the MacBook Air? Any of them will do that, and do it better than the 13" MBP. Only the top end model costs more than the Pro. Most of the schools I work with have moved to the Air. I don't know of any that have purchased new 13" MBP with opticals.

Built in Ethernet port
Built in FireWire port
Built in Optical Drive
Upgradable Standard 2.5" SATA Drive
Upgradable RAM
Battery level LEDs.
Original MacSafe power connector
Price of $1099
