My deck, while structurally sound, was looking a little worn. It is pressure treated pine and the decking boards are about 18 years old. Some look almost like new, but the ones that get the most sun exposure, the ones in the far corner of the pic where the green chair is, were checking and splintering. I didn't want to replace just some boards, and I didn't want to replace all of them, since it is mostly a cosmetic thing.
I went looking for something I could put on top of the boards to make them look better and more uniform. All the deck resurfacing products (thick textured paint stuff) got horrible reviews, so I started looking at deck tiles to go over the boards. Some of the tiles are wood, some are plastic, and the ones I settled on are on a plastic grid with composite boards on top. They just snap together and you can pop them apart, if you want to move them or make a different pattern.
The ones I got are made by Newtech Wood and they are 12" x 24". Most of the tiles you find are 12"x 12", but I wanted the larger size, since my deck is about 12'x33'. Home Depot carries the 12"x12" of these tiles online, but I saw a link over on SD where the Newtechwood people were getting rid of some profiles/colors on eBay, and they had the 12"x24" in a teak color which was exactly what I was wanting, AND they were about half the square foot price of the 12"x12" ones at HD. Below is a pic of the deck before and after. I still need to sand and stain the handrails and that step off the bedroom, where the lime trees are, but otherwise, I am very pleased with the way it turned out. It only took about 2-3 hours to put the tiles down, and another 2-3 hours to make the cuts on the ones that need to be modified. The most strenuous part of the job was carrying the 40-50lb boxes from the garage to the deck.
The little Rockwell saw I bought worked nicely on these. Had to use an old jigsaw for one tile, and that was a bit of a pain.

Here is the link to the eBay listing. They have other colors, too.
