I am perfectly happy with my Speck cover for my MBP, but was am always looking for a better solution for travel. I do not want a cover that makes my laptop look like a
book and would like it as durable as possible. Is getting a Speck still my best choice?

Speck has been my go-to for eight years of MBP ownership.

I didn't like the spec I got for my MBRr. Nice finish, good fit, but the bottom corner tabs failed after 6 months so the bottom won't stay on. I still keep the top on, though.

John,
I tried one of the competitors and it was awful. Immediately returned it in favor of a model from Speck. Keep in mind, the shells have a 1 year warranty. Contact Speck about a warranty replacement of the shell.

I am probably going with another Speck - just pinging what is out there (I have also tried other cases and the materials are just not as good).

iPearl cases have been good for my household. Better than the one Speck I've owned.

Sekker,
iPearl is the brand I tried prior to switching back to Speck. Here's a thread about it which includes a link top my amazon.com review:
I stand by the assessment.
