I finally watched part of the War of the Worlds today, the new one

I am disappointed in the picture quality of this DVD. Heck I watched the original '53
version te other day and it looked better than this. The sound is great, picture is
quallity really bad! I got sidetracked and haven't finished it yet. Maybe it was
made to look that way.

Yet another remake better left "unmade".

I thought it looked lousy in the theater. High contrast, lots of very dark shadows. I think it was supposed to look "intense". Didn't work for me.

Some impressive effects but overall it seemed dull and uninvolving. And then BOOM it's over, like they ran out of film.

A friend loaned me a copy of Pirates of the Caribbean, the new one, frankly I can't
see why on earth anyone would spend even a dollar on that trash, it's unwatchable.
I had already seen it in the theatre and it was decent movie nothing to brag about.
Those camcorder bootlegs are laughable, people walking in front of the camera,
coughing, babies crying, people munching on food, people laughing loudly, etc.

The original is a definite Classic. I liked the aliens spacecraft much better.

The only reason I watched it to the end in hope to see Tom Cruise get killed, mauled, stomped, shredded, processed and spraying for fertilizer. Sadly my hope to see such events never took place and the move was a huge disappointment. The son and Cruise were both equally annoying throughout.

SPOILER: So um, these aliens studied our planet for how many thousands of years, fly across the galaxy, attack us with weapons of mass destruction and don't have the smarts to develop apparatus to avoid germs? Crap.

I must be the only one, but I liked it fine, for what it was. I thought it captured the original feel pretty well, and I thought the effects added to the movie rather than just being for their own sake. The original ended abruptly (anticlimactic) also. I didn't notice the picture being kj.
