Pictures from a recent visit to the wetlands
#1
I haven't been to my old picture taking stomping grounds for over a year. This is the wetlands area just west of sacramento

and egret

an american coot

an american kestrel (haven't seen one of these in a long time)

pretty sure this is a northern harrier, but it sure is a big bird - may be an eagle - sure is badass!

he took off with a dead coot like it was nothin'

a hawk - I dunno, they all look alike to me...

a kite

a meadowlark

a northern shoveler

I forget what these guys are called...

another egret

red-winged blackbird

llamas in love

the whole family (this is in the middle of suburbia, but you'd never know)

Sweet! Always Summer there... It could be a Golden Eagle. My book isn't handy but I'll check it out later.

Llamas in suburbia. Does it stink around there?

It should have been "Llamas in Llove".

Nice pix. Are you able to get that close (to, say, the RWBB) or do you have a big-ass telephoto on a tri/monopod?

Beautiful, hal! Thanks for sharing these.
I was beginning to feel as if you hadn't posted any bird pics in quite a while
and was contemplating putting in a request.

I was able to get very close to the blackbird (and meadowlark) because I was in a car. Using my SX50 - no tripod
