Sneakers (or walking shoes or cross-trainers) recommendations, please

It's time once again to buy some footwear that will be useful for both walking for exercise and just plain old kickin' around. I'm a boring s.o.b., so I like white with maybe a stripe or small logo. None of those fugly multicolored, pumpable, basketball shoes that are priced as they are because of some athete's endorsement.

I'm not particular about brand. I think the last ones I had were actually Dr. Scholls, but I've worn Reebok, Nike, New Balance, Avia in the past and really have no particulatr preference. I'm looking for something nice and lightweight, with comfortable support, and in the $50-$60 range. I'll end up just spending some time at a shoe store trying some on, but in the meantime I figured I'd try to get some personal recommendations.

I like my New Balance 766s. About $90 and worth it.

My husband really likes New Balance. Sometimes you can find good deals on them at Kohl's when they are putting the discontinued styles on clearance..

Take a look at some of the Propets on zappos.com. That's the brand I've gotten the last couple of times, because they have a good selection of styles in wide widths, which can be hard to find. They're also pretty moderately priced.

I'd say it completely depends on the shape of your foot. Whatever is comfortable is the right shoe. If you are going to run then make sure to buy a mid to high end running shoe

I have a wide foot and use Saucony Grid Trigon Rides. I use them for running, but I suspect they’ll do good for walking. I may be switching back to Asics soon, but the Sauconys are great shoes. New Balance are bricks. Don’t skimp on shoes. The right tool for this job will be the difference between walking and not walking.

I would like to second the Puma suggestion that Seacrest made. I wear the Puma Sildre which I think has been discontinued, but are very similar to the one that Seacrest linked. I didn't know if they made those for men or not.

As he said, they may not be to everyone's liking, but for me they are fantastic. They have a very good arch support and help my plantar fasciitis. I like them so much that I have 5 pairs in different colors. Hey, I found them on sale when they discontinued some of the colors.

In some of the Puma styles you may need to buy a half size larger, but some run true to size. You will really need to try them on.
