PSA: 300,000 older Honda/Acura owners are told to stop driving their cars
#1
If you own any of the following list of cars, the NHTSA has an urgent message for you.
DO NOT drive them until you get the airbag replaced. These cars have an extremely high risk of their airbags exploding, the agency says.

2001-2002 Honda Accord
2001-2002 Honda Civic
2002 Honda CR-V
2002 Honda Odyssey
2003 Honda Pilot
2003 Acura CL
2002-2003 Acura TL

According to the Federal safety agency, its most recent tests indicate that the Takata airbags in these specific models have a far greater risk of exploding and injuring or killing the driver or a passenger. While most Takata airbags have less than a 1 percent chance of exploding, the rate for the bags in these specific vehicles is now more than 50 percent.

Honda has parts for the immediate replacement of those airbags at no cost.

Already got both the Civic and the Accord swapped out last year.

FWIW - apparently high humidity and heat causes this design to explode with too much force. So the risk is higher in the summer

That reminds me. I need to find out when the hell they are going to replace the airbags in my '10 TL.

took my 01 Civic and they said they looked at Airbag and it was not recalled. That was when the first wave of recalls was made. Since then, Honda and Takata expanded the recall significantly, but my car does not show up as recalled. I wonder what kid of airbag I have and if it should be replaced or not. That was the driver's side. I never got a recall for passenger's side.

I also had a 2002 Odyssey. I got notice that BOTH airbags were recalled, went to dealer, they had parts to replace only driver's side. They wrote on the document that passenger's side is not in stock.

Got home, checked online, van was still listed as having open recall. Sold the van, showed the buyer that she needed to go back and get the passenger's side replaced. next day I checked online again, now Honda listed no open recall. I think my dealer by mistake told honda that they replaced both airbags. I wonder if the buyer ever went back to them to get the second airbag replaced.

At this rate, they might as well replace all airbags they have every equipped cars with.

They keep expanding the recall, so I'm wondering. I have a 1998 Honda Accord and if my airbag kills me I'm gonna be pissed.

Over the period of time I owned my 2001 Accord (2004-2013), I believe I received recall notices for this issue on three separate occasions. Honda really has been diligent in its efforts to get owners to bring their vehicles in for repair.

Acura gave my wife and I free rental cars (via Enterprise) while waiting on parts. Been about 5 weeks now, surprised it's taking so long. Must be costing them a ton of money.

Did they give you a comparable luxury vehicle or a inexpensive car?
