Dammit, missed that one but maybe another will come along soon.

I had previously talked about the problems that my daughters could have when I get them new iPods as one has an eMac and the other has a G4 iBook so neither have USB2. It came to me and it seemed like a good idea that if they had room I could get an old B&W G3 tower, stick a USB2 card in and they could have machines dedicated purely for their music. I started doing a little research to see how much the setups might cost me and found that here in the UK a suitable B&W G3 would be £20-£30. I have at least one spare USB2 card and our local FreeCycle is constantly showing free old monitors. I have to say though that I wouldn't have minded catching this one, I like the 'fault' on his monitor.

Erm, all G4 iBooks do have USB2. And so do some eMac models (April 2004 and later).

Thank you very much for that info. My daughters are respectively 25 and 150 miles away so I have to go by what they tell me. Daughter with iBook is coming up in a couple of days so I will check it out...make sure it's even a G4. The eMac is nearer but it should show up in System Profile so I will tell her to look tonight.

Shame, I was starting to get a little excited about creating a B&W G3 music machine. Smile

I've been informed of this before and do use it. Unfortunately in this case I believed what my kids had told me. Possibly not the thing to do where computers are concerned.

This idea of setting up a B&W music machine still appeals though, I thought B&W because of the colour scheme.

My Sony had that defect from the factory. Crappy tubes.
