What's the minimum RAM you would get with a new computer?
#1
Seeing as most new Macs seem to have soldered in memory, would you want a minimum of 8 or 16 GB?

It seems that there are a fair number of programs that recommend having at least 4 GB of RAM.

Would only having 8 GB of RAM likely be a problem for the next few years?

Or is this only a problem if you're running different OS's in virtual machines?

Depends on usage. Depends on what model mac. Older ones with spnny drives vs ones with 2.5" SSDs (500 MB/s) or brand new MBPs with flash drives (3000 MB/s)

An iPad Air has 1 GB of ram and its super snappy, doing what its supposed to do...

16GB for a machine I planned to give the normal treatment, which for me is to keep around doing one thing or another for 10 years.

Well, that rules out any Mac laptop.

8 GB - That is enough for most normal operations that do not require large amounts of RAM to process.
