Battery lasts about a 24hr day if you're simply using watch functions with few complications. If you do anything more substantial - like use it when running or for music, any of the health apps, etc. the duration will drop to about 6-8 hours.

No, it does not. I end the day with at least 30% battery remaining on mine.

Some days, my Watch would run down before I was ready for bed. Other days, there was plenty of juice left. I never could figure out why or what was draining it more on one day than another. That was my ONLY complaint. (Well, that and the cost, but that's expected of Apple, right?)
I just ordered and received my Apple Watch Series 2 yesterday and have passed the Series 1 to my adult daughter. I haven't had the 2 long enough to compare battery life yet, obviously. Time will tell. (There's a pun in there somewhere. Watch...time... ?)
