Testing used modem before putting in service
#1
Picked up a used Arris SB6183

Is there a way to connect to my MacBook Pro via Ethernet, and see what version firmware it has?, I have read threads where there was a problem with IPV6, until TWC did an update back in 11-2016 or so. Called update "birth certificate"

Turn off wifi and point to 192.168.100.1
Login and password should be on the modem

I logged into modem, and can see all of the screens and menus.

When I get this modem online, how do I tell if IPV6 is working?

It's been my experience that Comcast updates the firmware automatically from their end.

It depends a little on which OS you are running on the Mac. The Mac will get an IPV6 address from the router and it will be displayed if you use the ifconfig command in the terminal.

Edit: maybe Onamuji will chime in if I mention his name...

I find 2 TWC websites, one says sb6183 is ipv6 compatible other says it is not.

And I have read that around 11/2016 people got an update (which this modem has received), that made it IPv6 compatible, but then around 3/2017 people were saying it wasn't working

Can't seem to find definitive answer

Can you post the two links so I know if any results I find are different? The one list that most online sites refer to is https://www.timewarnercable.com/content/...modems.pdf, which says it is not IPV6 compatible, but they still recommend it.

After reading a link on a forum. It's the firmware. It is compatible/functional if it has the older firmware, but the last update disabled it. There is a fix that hasn't been pushed out by TWC. FWIW I think it's strange that the Cable company is the only one who can put firmware on it. Found that out when I read about the older SB Docsis 2.0 modems.
