A 1200 mile run to San Antonio, Odessa, Midland, San Angelo, Austin and back to Houston....

Central Texas, Brady, population a bit over 5K, the rail station....

The county court house....

Town square....

The finest house in town...

San Saba, population a bit under 3K, the merchant side of the town square....

.....the social side, a private club and the barbershop....

...the entrepreneur side....

the puppies, checking out all the exotic places daddy left them for.
The Locomotive was sniffed sniffed inch by inch....

Fascinating photo series.

Your subjects are truly exotic. These are places I've never been--and never will go. In Florida, we have small towns like these--just with a decidedly Florida, or green flair. I hadn't thought about capturing their beauty in photos, but your series has inspired me.

Thanks for sharing.

Those old Texas courthouse squares are amazing. Lockhart is one of my faves, and it doesn't hurt any that the square is bracketed by magnificent BBQ joints.

"private club" in TX means alcohol may be served to "members". I had dinner with a friend in a small TX town years ago. I was charged a small fee to become a "member" for the night and could then legally imbibe.

San Saba pictures may be a bit misleading, unlike the town square, Main Street is much more gentrified and upscale, lined with several wineries and at least one olive oil company. Besides being a center for pecan production of many different varieties....

I don't recognize you vehicle. Never saw one with a headlight in the center. Is that a custom job?

I like Suburbans, but I dont like the way Chevy does the front so I changed it. Also because of these trips with long runs in the boonies I needed a bit more illumination down the road this was the opportunity to get it. Sometimes there is a bit of wildlife on the empty toads in the middle of the night and you want to see as far ahead as possible. The little black rectangles in the bottom corners of the grill are laser jammers.
The previous Suburban had three of these lights, but then I did run South Texas a lot ....
