Typically, over these past 15 days Lake Erie tends to cool 4.5 degrees. Instead, it's warmed up 6.7 degrees, putting the water temperature 7.6 degrees warmer than normal. Lake Erie's shallow average depth, just 62 feet, and its smallest volume of all the Great Lakes makes it more conducive to large temperature changes. The warm water comes after a cooler than normal July and August. On Sept. 25, temperatures reached warmer on this date than the past 5 years.

(Bad news is more algae and invasive species...)
