Figured it was a ren fest. Freaks come out at night...

Wonder if those costumed peeps are employed by the faire or just cosplay... so its like "hey kids, take your photo some random dude..."

I remember when a Renaissance Faire was actually about The Renaissance.

They’ve now degenerated into Halloween-esque excuses to dress up in completely arbitrary costumes.

I wonder how many of those costume-wearers even know what The Renaissance was, let alone when or where.

It was never about Renaissance only. It always covered anything from Middle Ages, The Age of Chivalry, all the way to the 17th century, the time of Three Musketeers.

Some, quite a few, are actors doing weekend work.
Apparently, including tips, they do quite decent money.
Then, of course, all the vendors will be in costume and character, add the cosplayers, it becomes quite an interesting ecosystem....

Theres a big one North of SF Ive been too several times back in the early 90s that was quite a hoot.

Being close to SF and near the start of gay pride movement, it seemed to be a breeding ground for the "whatever you want" movement. Lots of everything. Not really a place for kids. I think many orf them have now migrated to Burning Man...
