Magnetic cables - more info
#1
I've been working with these fun magnetic cables since they were posted earlier here on MRF.

They've been great replacing lightning cables.

But they make microUSB and usbc connectors, too. And the same cable now charges all devices.

I've added one to my Bluetooth headphones that are always a pain to plug in via microUSB. And to my kindle.

My wife put one in her mophie iPhone case.

They can be purchased directly from China via eBay - takes 3-4 weeks - or I found them in the US via Dx.com

Maybe not quite as convenient as wireless charging, but pretty good and an upgrade over plugin wires.

I've ordered some for USBC for my Mac. We will see if they are a viable MagSafe-like connector.

The ones I'm using came with MRFer recommendation:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/WSKEN-Mini-2-Ma...1813747139

Made by WSKEN

Here are some at Amazon:

https://smile.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_...lias%3Daps&field-keywords=wsken+magnetic+cable&sprefix=wsken+magnetic+cab%2Caps%2C146&crid=VNR8FS24XXNX

Seem more expensive than ordering via ebay, but they come faster.

This is not an exhaustive recommendation - there could be plenty better, but the ones I have seem to do the job and appear to be high quality.

I wonder if AAPL will take a hint from this...

Still loving my WSKEN's. I did have one plug with a corroded pin, but they seem to be getting cheaper from china. $11 for cable and plug! Keep in mind, some of the non-WSKEN plugs need clearance around them so they can slide into the cables. WSKEN fit flush.

So basically the Child of Mrs. Magsafe and Mr. Lightning?

Just FYI, I opted for these at eBay.

Mostly got them for easy charging, but much to my delight, they do indeed also carry data from my iP6s to my Mac. Labelled "Mbuynow", look to be of decent quality, US seller (although Chinese product, I'm sure), and have LED to indicate charging. Three sets ( of 1 meter cable plus Lightning and micro USB tips) for a scoche over $16 total including shipping.

Looks like a neat idea. Any concern about shorting out the exposed contacts on the iPhone?
