help me strike my profile from LinkedIn
#1
I get nothing out of that site, and it's more of a PITA to update and receive the constant emails than it could possibly be worth to me. By just deleting my account, will that "erase" all trace of the personal page or does it freeze the existing account at the time of deletion?

I deleted my account and according to LinkedIn the profile will no longer be visible nor searchable which to me says that it is still lurking on LinkedIn but nobody can find it. They do say that "We're unable to reopen accounts closed for more than 20 days." but I'm not sure if that's because it is then really truly gone and nonexistent or not. I assume it is dead and gone. https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/63

Just leave it there, but shut off all emails. Don't update it unless you're looking for a job.

If you've ever given someone positive feedback, they'll lose it when you delete your account.

Right now I'm doing recruiting through LinkedIn. If someone doesn't have a good profile, they're not going to get a job. I imagine you must be in a much different industry.

I am a blue collar guy on LinkedIn.

I joined years ago so I could monitor the salary types jumping ship.

It has turned into another Farcebook.

I do not friend people I do not know. I mean meet on the street know.

I get requests from people all the time to join. I have no interest, as I'm not planning on getting a new job before I retire.

I did google an old colleague recently, and saw his Linkedin profile. Everything he wrote about the place we worked together for five years about 25 years ago was pure fiction. I imagine there's a lot of that on there.

That is the rub....that isn't really people you know asking you to join, that is people that, when joining, allowed LinkedIn to harvest all the contacts, and send that stupid, join spam.

I have had to unsubscribe from emails addresses I rarely use, just because someone said "OK" send invites to everyone.

I despise LinkedIn for this.

I looked up the profile of a guy I knew back when I was in the military.

A "one termer", if you can call it that.

He was court martialed, kicked out of the service, and spent time in a military prison down in San Diego as part of his punishment.

His LinkedIn page said he was teaching satellite communications systems to new military recruits, a job for which he never worked a day in his brief military career...

Sounds like if someone created a LinkedIn Hall of Shame there would be a lot of content. That said, I have a former coworker who has plenty of my work in his portfolio. Sure some of it he did 10% of, but some of it was 100% me - even stuff he argued with me about - he's got my version in his portfolio, not his.

LinkedIn is a waste of time.
I'm trying to get out myself, but they still send me emails occasionally.
