Congress can appoint a new special counsel. Ha! Maybe after mid terms

During Watergate the prosecutors prepared for the Saturday night massacre. They made copies of documents and took them home. They were prepared, even if it meant going to jail, to release the documents. That wasn't necessary as a new special counsel was appointed.

Mueller and his team are sharp. Indictments may have already been issued but are sealed. They could also drop more indictments prior to Trump taking action. State attorneys may also be prepped to issue state charges. I have no doubt Mueller is ahead in this chess game.

Expect charges to be filed in NY State court almost immediately. Mueller has made it clear that that is his Plan "B". Expect Donnie to wear out his Pardon Pen. Oh wait ! It only works for Federal raps ! Heh heh heh heh...

What does this have to do with firing Mueller? There would still be an ongoing investigation at the FBI and Mueller doesn't work for the state. Unless Chris Wray is a pure Trump stooge, he would assign a different lead investigator to take over the case. Trump would probably have to fire a good fraction of FBI upper management and lean heavily on whoever ends up in charge to snuff the investigation. That would force the republicans in congress to become even more hypocritical.

davester,
Mueller has telegraphed that charges in NY State are his plan "B". Evidence points to state felonies being committed as well as Federal felonies. So he's got the NYS DA all up in the case as well.

Chip, chip, chip away at the case, a thousand pages of evidence at a time.

Right now, Republicans are sticking close to Trump without exactly endorsing his opinions, because they think that gives them the best chance of winning in November. If Trump fired Mueller before the elections, it would be chaos for Republicans, who would almost certainly lose the house and probably the senate. If the Republicans hold on to both, Trump could safely fire Mueller right after the election.

From Mueller's perspective, the timing is related to what Trump does. Indictments in early summer of people close to Trump is throwing down the gauntlet. A report to the AG more or less indicting Trump in early fall gives Republicans a chance to recover and would look more non-partisan.

Firing Mueller now would give Trump the best chance, but it hangs the Republicans out to dry. Look for Trump to do what is best for him; the Republican Party is just a flag-of-convenience for him.

Trump cannot fire Mueller. Only Rosenstein can fire him and "only" for cause. Rosenstein has said repeatedly he sees no cause. Only Sessions can fire Rosenstein and only for cause. Trump can fire Sessions, replaced by Rosenstein.

Trump has already tried to fire all of them.

I voted for Hillary Clinton
