Any MRF Favorite 'Budget' Mandoline Slicer?
#1
Any members have an inexpensive Mandoline Slicer they'd recommend?
Here's just two from the myriad of offerings:
AMZ #1 is the Mueller Austria V-Pro 5 Blade @ $30 link

AMX #9 is the HomeNative Adjustable Mandoline Slicer 5 Blade @$15.39 Lightning Deal link
(Mueller knockoff ?)

I thinking $40 tops for light, home use.

We have a simple inexpensive generic one from BB&B similar to MikeF's OXO just without the handle .
1/2 the time I just reach for a knife and a cutting board and for a large quantity pull out the food processor if that will work for the job. It actually slices pretty good the things that fit.

Two Act Play: Life with a Mandoline, or Be Careful with the Death Machine

Wife: Be careful with that thing, you should not use if for potatoes.
Me: It's OK. I will be careful.
[Wife leaves. I slice potato and slice off a piece of thumb. In trying to extricate myself I manage to slice other thumb. Now I have two thumbs bleeding while hanging over the sink. Wife returns.]

........

[At Urgent Care]

Doctor Christine: Its nothing, just two nasty slices missing. I bet you were using a mandoline? What is it with men and mandolines?
Me: [shrug]
Doctor Christine: You will be fine, just don't use your thumbs for a week.

I'd sort of like to get one so as to make waffle french fries (fewer calories) and waffle apple slices.

Nix on waffle thumb slices.

Make sure you pick up a pair of cut resistant safety gloves to go with that mandoline.

Get the one with a V blade. They slice better and don't crush your food like the single slant blade.
