...and I’m not sure why. I’m redoing our hot tub (built from a kit - I’m a DIY’er) and was going to add an (in-tub, underwater) LED light strip, since the spa controller has a 12 V output for just this purpose. I decided to splurge a bit and got probably the most expensive IP68 rated (ie submersible) 5 meter strip on Amazon, well reviewed for around $46. It says IP68 in the title of the item, and they have pictures in the listing showing it under water. (It may be from an Amazon-related seller, not Amazon per se).
Then I get it, and it says IP65 on the box - not submersible at all. Waste of time, made me mad. So I dashed off this two star review:
NOT IP68 WATERPROOF!
Even though they are titled and sold as "IP68" (which is submersible), and show pictures of it under water, what they sent is listed as IP65 (NOT submersible) on the package.
They look like good quality lights. I'm hoping the labeling on the box is erroneous, because I'm going to be submersing them, and if they fail, the review goes to one star and the item gets returned.
They didn’t actually get to being submersed - they failed almost immediately, and I initiated a return. Amazon says they’ll give me a refund, but won’t post the review. Their email has a link purportedly to their review policy, but the link is dead.
Oh well. I’m just wondering why Amazon would let this false description stand untouched. Yeah, I wrote my review while mad, but I thought it was accurate. What did I do wrong?

Probably because your review was not about the product being sold but about the seller who erroneously shipped the wrong item which you are able to return. Had you not been able to return the item, your review most likely would remain because it reflects on the (lack of) support provided by the seller.

Yeah, I don’t think this was the wrong item. This seller doesn’t advertise these same light strips (same except IP65) on Amazon at least. And the picture of the fancy box it came in is the same as in some of the reviews too.
But who knows.

If you scroll down to the "Product description", there it says IP65. Don't know if that was changed recently.

Like, word for word?
Well, honestly, that’s going to make it look a little like I’m part of a concerted effort to unfairly tar this product with multiple identical negative reviews.

Yes, copy/paste, I don't have time to write a new review. I don't even have this product, LOL,
No problem, I can delete it.

Amazon is easy to get on the phone. Call them up and ask what's going on.

Title stays IP68. Fine print says IP65. That is a terrible error for a product that could electrocute you.

Amazon can be pretty funky w/ the whole review process, for reasons that make no sense to their actual customers. I've gotten blocked and dinged three times simply for telling the truth. I think the sellers may have an avenue to contest negs and move to block negative reviewers. Amazon has a whole bunch of fine print that includes a variety of no-no's. They make it pretty clear, no good reviews in exchange for free stuff....
I bought a wired earbud headset with the goal of being able to fall asleep with it on, since it was listed as lightweight, and "comfort fit" in its title description. Turned out, that was the only decent characteristic it had. The sound quality was poor, it had the worst cable rumble of any wired earbuds I'd ever used, and something else was also one star rating worthy. I explained everything, and the seller, and probably their brother-in-law, took issue w/ my commentary. So, I updated my review in more detail, and stated that if the seller wanted to replace the original headset w/ one that worked better, as they claimed it did, I would be happy to reconsider my review. In the mean time, I stated, the 2 star review would stand, because the headset was lightweight and comfortable enough to sleep on.
Shortly thereafter, I got blocked, ALL the reviews for the product disappeared, and within a few weeks, the product was no longer available. It was relisted after another few weeks, and looked to have a bunch of bogus reviews posted; and then again ALL the new reviews vanished and the product has not been available since. Bottom line is, you never can fully know when to avoid the AMZ review mess.
I always contact the seller first, before going neg in public, to give them a chance to respond. The seller failed to respond, and while AMZ would do a return, since the earbuds were comfy enough to sleep on, my choice was to hold onto 'em until finding some that are just as comfy but sounded better.
