BCS= Bull(championship)Sh!t. What a farcical system. It's all about greed.
Yes, I'm cranky tonight. Why, why, why is John Madden still employed in any capacity that involves speech? NBC getting Sunday Night Football (or as they put it so pretentiously, Football Night in America) is a sad, sad turn of events. It means: No more L&O: Criminal Intent (now it's up against House) John Madden, unfettered by duct tape A horrible, obnoxious pregame show. This POS is presumably the reason that ESPN bent over for NBC and scrapped NFL Primetime, which was the one ESPN program I almost always watched.

For Florida, I predict a repeat of the '96 Fiesta Bowl.

I'm from Ohio, and i have to say, they live, breathe and eat football there. Teams from Ohio have a lot on their shoulders when they go into a game.

This gator was so hoping for a UM-OSU rematch - just to save the Gators the embarrassment. This is going to be the 96 Fiesta Bowl all over when Nebraska steamrolled UF 62 - 24.
The Rose Bowl should be good though with UM-USC

The Buckeyes have long been plagued by ethical questions. College football blogdom doesn't call their coach "Cheaty McSweatervest" for nothing :-)
Of course, their standout player, Maurice Clarett, generates positive press for OSU as OJ Simpson does for USC. And last year, someone broke into a house rented by a bunch of OSU players and lifted a haul of cash, expensive jewelry and electronics that makes you wonder where these starving kids get all of the goods from (cough...boosters...cough). As much as I didn't like Urban Meyer's shameless lobbying for a BCS bid, I will hold my nose and root for the Gators, but I don't think that any team can beat Jim Tressel & Company.

As a Wolverine living in Florida I'm torn by the BCS selection. I really think Michigan got hosed. Their one loss was by three to the #1 team in the country in the Horseshoe. Florida's loss was against a much less opponent, and they should have lost against South Carolina too if not for a miracle.
Now Michigan has to play what ammounts to a home game for USC rather than a rematch on nuetral ground against OSU. Blah. The BCS is a joke. Go Gators, and Go Blue!

UM fan here too but one thing I read in the Freep was that Florida had a harder schedule overall but as much as I'd like to see a UM-OSU rematch the conventional wisdom is that it wouldn't be good for the TV ratings... BCS definitely needs some kind of overhaul.

That didn't exactly help the Trojans in last year's Rose Bowl. They even lost there this past weekend! As for a UM/tOSU rematch, every other good conference puts it's best teams in a conference championship game. Why should the Big Televen get a bye?

As I said in an earlier post, I think that if Michigan had played one more game, not even a conference championship game, they would be playing OSU for a rematch. However, two "off" weeks, coupled with wins by USC and Florida didn't help with the voters.
Some of Florida's wins were not pretty, but they were a win nonetheless. Perhaps not worthy of many style-points, but their schedule does help make up for that. If the SEC champion ends up with only 1 loss (or undefeated), you have to strongly consider them for the BCS championship. Just ask Auburn from a couple of years ago. I think that Urban Meyer was lobbying for a playoff system based on the understanding that his team was going to be passed over for USC or Michigan. Also, they may "live, breathe and eat football " in Ohio, but I can't think of any other colleges besides OSU that would be considered a football powerhouse. Compare that to the state of Florida when Miami, Florida, and FSU are all fielding great teams (not this year, however), and there is no comparison. Down south, not only to the live, breathe, and eat football, but if you are a coach and your team is unbeaten except for losing to the state rival, you are likely to receive death threats or a brick through your window. |
